On a Norfolk Hilltop

I've started a series of miniature paintings with a focus on Norfolk Island. They are a diversion while I take my time finishing the large canvases. This is the first, and there are a few others in progress. I'm having a crack at some Terns, Tropic Birds and a Bubuk Owl as well. It will be nice to see a little set of Norfolk paintings that are recognisably of this place, not abstracted concepts like my other ones.

Meanwhile, I am still waiting for the Permaset paints to turn up so I can paint some fabric..... things take time to get here on the island.

Valentines day cards - design in progress

Hi there folks. I was sitting at work today thinking about all the work I needed to do for my painting over the next few months to prepare for the RAW exhibition, and came up with the grand idea of adding a bit more to the list...  Miniature Canvases for Valentines day, and matching art cards....

This evening after work I sat down in the studio and did a test run... this was the result.

So the plan is to paint a stack of miniature valentines paintings like this, and have cards printed of them, with both the originals and the cards available through my Etsy shop and at the Norfolk Island markets.

Battling to paint Bomboras

Well, that was a little dissapointing. A whole post just vanished on me. Oh well, here we go again.

So, I was telling you about how somedays paintings just flow, and others they don't. Other days you battle. Today I battled. But that's ok. I didn''t win, but I learnt something. I learnt today that adding a stack more medium than usual makes the acrylic feel a little like oil.

And for the first time I actually tried to paint a real place that I have been to...from a photo mind you, but still, I can actually say this is a painting of Bomboras. Now some local will come and tell me that no, that's Rocky Point...ha! It probably is, but for the purpose of giving this painting a name...I'm going with Bomboras.

Despite the fact that I had a hell time with this painting and it didn't go quite to plan, I've been having a cracking day. Paddling the outrigger, swimming, seeing the turtle again, Painting, and now going to pick up my son from pre-school which he WANTED to go to today, no tears, no fights...wanted to go.

Yeooowww. Life is good.

I'll tell you about why this place feels like home to me, and why it inspires me so much next time. Ciao folks.
